International importance:
It is included in the Red List of Belarus of the 2nd edition (1993). It is protected in Lithuania, Latvia, the Russian Federation and Poland.

Description:
The fruit body repeatedly (to 8 orders) korallovidno branched, in outlines comes nearer to spherical or hemispherical, 12–30 cm in the diameter, on the short nozhkovidny basis, elastic and fleshy or with fibrous pulp, whitish or yellowish. Branches are seated by the awl-shaped thorns 1-9 mm long which are mostly directed down and collected in ranks. Hyphas with rare buckles. Basidiums are club-shaped, 16-25 in size´ 3,3–5,0 microns. Disputes widely - ellipsoidal or ovoid, almost colourless, smooth or rough, 2,5–5,5 ´2–4,5 microns, with a reinforced cover.

Rasprostraniyeniye:
Europe, Caucasus, Siberia, Far East, North America, Southern and Southeast Asia, Australia. In the territory of Belarus it is known in 14 localities. It is noted in Brest (The Brest and Pruzhansky districts), Vitebsk (Dokshitsky and Lepelsky districts), Gomel (Zhitkovichsky, Lelchitsky and Petrikovsky districts), Grodno (The Grodno district), Minsk (Borisovsky, Dzerzhinsk and Minsk districts) and Mogilev (Klichevsky and Mogilev districts) by the Region.

Habitats:
Meets mainly in the oak woods, and also in fir groves and pine forests a birch. The look sensitive to anthropogenous influence is used as the indicator of the old-age minimum broken woods. Nevertheless, there is an instruction on a possibility of growth of a mushroom in parks. Grows and forms fruit bodies on large valezhny wood and sukhostoyny trunks, large branches, stubs, sometimes in hollows. Saprotrof on deciduous breeds, mainly an alder black and species of birches, is more rare on a fir white, a maple platanovidny, a hornbeam ordinary, an ash-tree ordinary, an oak rocky and an oak chereshchaty.

Biology:
Fruit bodies are formed in June - September. The mushroom causes white decay of wood.

Number and tendency of its change:
Populations are small, meets in the form of single fruit bodies. Grows in culture in vitro, however in the republic in collections of cultures it is not supported.

Major factors of threat:
All views of cabins of the wood and economic transformation of lands. Collecting decorative fruit bodies by the population is possible, is also little-known edible fungi.

Protection measures:
It is protected in the territory of the Berezinsky biospheric reserve and National park "Bialowieza Forest". Search of new locations and the organization of complex wildlife areas in places of growth with prohibition of anthropogenous influences is necessary.
